Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. James 1:16-17 God is the giver of all good gifts. Some people are good givers, but they are poor receivers, even with the gifts that God has freely given each one of us. God gives every person on the planet equal opportunity to receive his gifts, but not everyone, including Christians take advantage of what he offers. Sometimes we let our feelings stand in the way of actually receiving what God wants to give to us. We think we are taking something that either doesn’t belong to us, that someone else can use, or that we don’t really need it. God gives us the gifts, now it’s up to each of us to receive the gifts and learn how to use them. If there gifts are outside the door of your house, in order to make use of them, you must open the door and go and get them. It is the same with all the gifts that God has given us. We can choose to keep them out of our life by refusing to use them. Here are some of the good gifts that God has given to us: THE GIFT OF LIFE. We wouldn’t be here without that gift! We are all here because God ordained us to be. No one is here from another planet or got here another way. For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. Psalm 139:13-18 THE GIFT OF SALVATION. Without salvation, he would still live on this planet but be eternally doomed. God also gives us the gift of a free will. We can make our own choices. He doesn't force anyone to do anything. 16 “For God so loved the world,[i] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17 THE GIFT OF PROTECTION. God will defend us and keep us from being attacked. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Psalm 34:7 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4 THE GIFT OF HEALING. If we get sick, we have a covenant with God and we can ask Him to heal us. “…If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.” Exodus 26:15 And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you. Deuteronomy 7:15 THE GIFT OF PROSPERITY. God wants us to prosper in every area. he gives us the ability to do so, if we choose. Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper[c] in all that you do. Deuteronomy 29:9 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. We don’t have to feel condemned or sinful any more. the blood of Jesus has made us clean--as if we never sinned. (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:13-17 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 THE GIFT OF KINDNESS AND PEACE. The goodness of God transcends anything man can do for us. God is gentle and kind to each one of us because he loves us so much. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. Isaiah 54:10 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3 THE GIFT OF JOY AND STRENGTH. Even in the midst of terrible circumstances we can have joy because we know God is there for us. Joy keeps us strong. Grief and sorrow make our spirit weak. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength Isaiah 26:4 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10 THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. The Holy Ghost is our comforter, teacher and He gives us guidance. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17 THE GIFT OF DIVINE DIRECTION. Did you ever need help in knowing which way to go? God will guide us and give us peace with our decisions. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 THE GIFT OF DIVINE WISDOM. Here again, God will give us wisdom in situations that are too hard for us. And He does it without yelling at us. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5 THE GIFT OF A SECOND CHANCE, OR A DO-OVER, OR A THIRD & FOURTH OR EVEN FIFTH CHANCE. Who has ever messed up? God is always there to pick up the pieces. No one is ever too far from the grace of God. When we mess up, He will help us. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Hebrews 13:5-6 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22 THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS. When we sin, He promises to forgive us and to forget it, if we repent. He said in Psalm 103, he would remove our transgressions as far as the east is from the west. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Ephesians 1:6-7 THE GIFT OF RESTORATION AND THE REMOVAL OF OUR SHAME. God will restore what was stolen from us, even if it was our own stupidity that caused the loss. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. 26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. Joel 2:25-26 THE GIFT OF MERCY. We all have needed mercy at some time or another. God graciously offers it when we need it. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; Psalm 103:17 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Acts 2:38-39 THE GIFT OF GRACE. Our gracious Father loves us and extends us the power to forsake sin. We also have the grace of God to be empowered to do the work of the ministry. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Titus 2:11 THE GIFT OF COMFORT. In our worst of times, God brings comfort to us. Man can’t alleviate our deepest sorrows, but God can. I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; Isaiah 51:12 THE GIFT OF DELIVERANCE. He offers complete deliverance for us. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. 20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. Psalm 34:19-20 THE GIFT OF AVAILABILITY. Ever felt like you were all alone? Well, you weren’t. God is always there for you. Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Matthew 7:7-11 (NLT) THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE. Most importantly, God offers us eternal life. We are going to live forever, and God wants us to live with Him. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 Praise the Lord. He is good! His gift of a free will allows us to choose what gifts we will receive into our lives. He won’t force anything on us, but let’s not be stubborn children and refuse His gracious gifts! Whatever we have need of, God has given it to us. Find the promises in the Bible and hold onto them until they come to pass and allow the Lord to lavish good things on you.
